Psychotherapy and psychological counselling for English-speaking clients

How I work

PhDr. Eliška Kodyšová, Ph.D. - psychotherapy psychological counselling for individuals and couples

During our first meeting, we will discuss the options of what our cooperation may look like – what can be dealt with in short-term psychological counselling, and what topics, difficulties and questions are more suitable for long-term psychotherapeutic cooperation. Based on this, you will decide what your objective is, and therefore what form of cooperation you prefer. We will also both check whether we will work well together. (If I find that you need a different kind of support than I can provide, I will suggest another colleague or organization.)

As a psychotherapist, I am trained to continually create a safe space in which you can explore your feelings and thoughts as we work. I respect the attitudes and values of all my clients. As a practitioner of Gestalt psychotherapy, I focus particularly on what is currently happening in your life and how it relates to the issue you wish to address in our work together. I help you map out what you can lean on, what ruts you want to leave, and what part of yourself you want to strengthen or explore more in the future. I won’t tell you what to do or what to think, but I will give you support in mapping out your various options and making decisions. In short-term counselling, I can give you an overview of what usually works in such cases and support you in learning the skills to manage your situation well.

What I can help you with

You may be dealing with unexpected (or even planned) changes in your life that have taken you by surprise – a breakup, the birth of a child, a job change, or anything else – and you feel you need to navigate how to continue to work with and respond to these changes.

Maybe you’re dissatisfied and don’t know why. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out what we actually need. As an experienced psychologist, I can offer you support in finding the change you need in your life.

Maybe you are not happy with your relationship and have decided to do something about it. In that case you can come on your own or with your partner. We’ll look at what’s going on in your relationship and where you can find ways to improve how you feel in your relationship. (Please note – once I have started working with one partner, it is then not possible to move on to working with the whole couple.)

You may be concerned about your child or another family member. I will support you to give them the best support and help you can, whilst managing this yourself.

Maybe you are worried about anything else – vague anxieties or tensions, feelings of burnout or sadness. We can look at these together too and see what can bring you relief.
